Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 are included.

The Soldiers Table Introduced

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the main group to embark on their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death started the story’s plot—used the enemy for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are wanted by the rulers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
  • The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to the northern region in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Questers and Planners tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s last Overture episode, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
